Description |
Nickel plated brass register made by the National Cash Register Company circa 1898. Brass is molded with intricate designs. Front (facing clerk) top has glass window with white outlined hand with pointing finger pointing towards sign stating "dollars cents" with scrolling numbers below. Three smaller rectangular glass panels oriented linearly are beneath the larger panel. From left to right they over lay text "$$$", "Dollars", "Cents". Below the register curves towards the clerk. This curving panel has 45 labeled keys and a small shield with "92" written on it and the number "308347" screwed below it on a small plaque. Below this curved section is a rectangular metal pate with a key hole just right of the top center. A lever (top to bottom) lies due right of the aforementioned panel. Back of register (facing client) has a top clear glass panel like the one facing the clerk on the front. There is a white outlined hand with pointing finger pointing towards sign stating "dollars cents" with scrolling numbers below. Molded metal on the rest of the back states "National/ Dayton, Ohio/ U.S.A." Right side of register has four clear glass holes with numbers behind them along top. Below are two key holes numbered one and two. Beneath these is a larger key hole. Towards the top front of the right side is a rotating handle. Left side of the register has a hollow metal container with cut-out sides and a solid metal top with a slit. Front has a small lever to open container. Piece of rolled paper lies within container. Exterior left side of container has two levers and one dial with a key hole in center. Exterior of dial labeled "off" and "on". Register sits atop a wooden box covered in brass and plated with nickel. Top edge of box front has text "National Cash Register Co., Dayton, Ohio U.S.A." Box has a wooden drawer with twelve compartments. Front compartments (six) measure four inches long and three and a quarter inches wide. The front botttom edge of these rectangular compartments is curved. The rear, right sided rectangular compartments (four) are 7.5" long and 3.75" wide. The remaining two compartments divide remaining right rear space in half to create a middle and rear compartment (5" wide, 4" long). The front of the drawer has molded text "National". |
